1 million Gmail phone calls in 24 hours

Since Gmail this week introduced the ability for US & Canadian users to make free telephone calls directly from their inboxes, they have reported that one million calls were made in a 24 hour period.

The option for “Call phone” now appears in Google Chat for North American users, who can access a Gchat pop-up to dial numbers and make calls which are free if local and around US$0.2 for most international numbers. You can also receive calls in Gmail with your Google Voice number. SMS capability is expected to roll out in the near future.
Look out Skype, Gmail is coming for you.
