How Tablets Will Transform Construction – or not.

Will tablets revolutionise the building industry? Perhaps not. There’s an interestingly negative reaction to this article from the commenters – and they’re not just trolls for a change. One of them says he has a degree! From experience, I can certainly see how apps are useful on-site, but until we have truly rugged digital paper I think the tablet will only be useful for communications and tools such as load calculators. Only this morning I was using my Google Maps with a builder on site on my phone but what’s the point of pinch+zoom plans need to be to scale? I know how my plans get muddy, rained on, measured, amended, scribbled on and pinned up on the wall until they’re so illegible I need to print another. I certainly wouldn’t want to take my precious iPad into that environment! The question is – what’s the killer app? Read more via Techcrunch
