When Google+ hit the market one of its stand out features was the ability to choose who you were posting to by grouping friends, acquaintances, colleges, etc in different ‘Circles’. Facebook were quick to follow suit with Facebook ‘Groups’.

This feature was an attempt to give social networks a personal touch…

Although, this post personalisation came as a surprise to me. I always thought of social as a place to sharing everything with as many people as possible, a place where everyone seemed to be striving for their 15 seconds of fame.

But of course it wouldn’t be long until someone attempted to rival the Social vs Personal thought process and created an application that only allows you to keep up with your closest friends and family.

First off the rank for 2012 is Path.

Path is a new mobile application. A somewhat hybrid of both Facebook timeline and a video enabled Instagram.

Path are positioning themselves as ‘The Personal Network’ which is really going against the grain when it comes to other ‘Social Networks’, although it doesn’t actually replace your existing social networks – it augments them.

Everyone seems to be up in arms about The Filter Bubble effect, while Path seem to be embracing it. Path is a mobile application that only allows you to share your ‘Path’ with 50 of your closest friends, “so you can really be yourself” they claim.

Upload video, photos and life moments with your personal network via your mobile phone. Each post is then recored on your path with a time, date and location which you can then share with your closest friends. Your friends can then comment, smile, heart or add your post to their path.

With a super cute and user friendly interface, this family friendly mobile application gets a double thumbs up from me.
