Ford’s marketing team were exploring opportunities to present the new Mustang through mobile advertising, giving people a unique and personal experience in their hand. The creative concept allowed people to control a mustang using the phone movement, while drawing a unique race track, tracing the path driven. Ford engaged Nomad to explore the concept through the delivery of a technical proof of concept and creative execution. The catch? A deadline of 1 week.
We prioritised a prototyping backlog against the technical break points to set a future creative platform founded in technical potential.
Working to a cross platform brief, we developed as a browser solution with a rigged 3D model of a Mustang and explored vertical, horizontal and user control drawing on the phones gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer. We also included vehicle audio, paint colour choice and a range of control methods.
We were able to deploy the prototype within the short timeframe, along with additional creative concept artwork helping to sell the opportunity of the larger project. The solution overcomes significant technical hurdles while also exploring opportunities for game play, audio, user interface and reward mechanics.
